Multiple media outlets are reporting that Donald Trump will choose Indiana Governor Mike Pence as his Vice President. Both Trump and his campaign manager Paul Manafort have stated that Trump will announce his VP in Manhattan at 11 AM on Friday morning.
Pence was a congressman who served in the House from 2001 to 2013 and is well respected by his peers. His choice would help Trump connect with the GOP conservative base and other elected officials, with who he has had strained relations. Pence is known for his conservative views on social issues gay marriage and abortion, which could make it harder for Trump to appeal to the general electorate.
Speaker Paul Ryan, a long-time colleague of Pence, seemed pleased with the choice, saying:
"It's no secret. I'm a big fan of Mike Pence's. We're very good friends. I have very high regard for him. I hope that (Trump) picks a good movement conservative. Clearly Mike is one of those"
-Speaker Paul Ryan (R)
Pence is currently in a reelection campaign for governor and if he is chosen as VP, would have to withdraw from that race.
