An arrest warrant has been issued for Green Party candidate Jill Stein after she was caught on camera allegedly vandalizing a North Dakota construction site in protest. A judge issued arrest warrants for Stein and her running mate Ajama Baruku.
Stein was protesting the building of a 3.8 billion dollar pipeline primarily in North Dakota that spans four states, which Native Americans have said would cause water pollution in their reservations and would be built on culturally sensitive areas. The pipeline would also increase dependence on fossil fuels, a position that Stein vehemently opposes. The Native Americans protesting have been subject to various attacks, both verbal and by attack dogs. Stein was caught spraypainting the phrases "decolonization" and "I approve this message" on various pieces of equipment.
In a statement, Stein defended her protest, saying:
"Press charges against the real vandalism taking place at the Standing Rock Sioux reservation: the bulldozing of sacred burial sites and the unleashing of vicious attack dogs" -Jill Stein
